Shockingly, crafting a deepfake requires minimal content—VICE discovered in 2019 that just 15 seconds of an Instagram story can create a convincing fake. The technology's accessibility has only increased, evident from a recent incident where five students were expelled from a Beverly Hills school for creating nonconsensual deepfakes of 16 classmates.

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a sponsor of the bill, experienced being the subject of deepfake porn earlier this year.
